In a national statement made by Singapore’s Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong, at the 74th
session of the United Nations General Assembly on 27 Sep 2019, PM Lee remarked that
“countries have… become much more interconnected. Actions by one country are having a
greater and faster impact on others, and effects that may eventually redound upon themselves.
In such a world, a multilateral approach is not an option but a necessity, to deal with complex
global problems including poverty eradication, pandemics, and climate change.
Question:
Appraise the impetus for Singapore to adopt multilateralism and the global challenges in getting other
countries to adopt the same.
