Many of the shows that we’ve studied this quarter—yes, even the ones set in London, Berlin, or Ukraine—are engaging with aspects of the American experience. What musical do you consider to be the “most American?” Why? What aspects of American identity/identities, values, norms, politics, attitudes—good and/or bad—do you see being explored? What point do you think the creators of the show are making about national and/or cultural identity? Do they succeed in communicating those points?
