Miscellaneous Instructions & Reflections
- You are not required to include a cover page.
- You are not required to provide an introduction and conclusion.
- You are required to utilize the sub-headings provided.
- Every sub-heading should be supported by at least 1 citation, probably more.
- This is not an opinion essay nor should it be written in the first person. Do not write, “I think”, “I feel”, “In my opinion”, etc.
- Remember to write with an ‘academic voice’.
- Remember that when you write an academic paper, you are supposed to have the mental outlook that the reader may not be well versed in the subject. So for instance, under the first sub-heading, you should still be defining affirmative action, even though the reader (Walling/Brodek) knows what this subject is about.
- You are required to actually use the citations you put in the paper. In other words, the citations that appear in your reference page should also appear in the actual text of the paper.
- Use paragraphs. If you are writing under a sub-heading something like, “A different topic” or “Turning our attention to…” clearly you are telling the reader you are transitioning to a different subject. Make a new paragraph.
- Always page break the reference page.
