Conspiracies are an everyday part of life. Regardless of whether true or not, my challenge to you is to discover why the sides hold their positions. Here is a list of the 3 top U.S. conspiracies.
- JFK—Some think secret agencies, governments, people all worked together to assassinate the President—Oswald acted alone
- 911—Some consider that the government destroyed the Towers—Terrorist flew planes
- Area 51—Some consider that aliens or alien technology are housed—Secure governmental facility designed to test aircraft
Here is what I want you to do: 1) Look up one these conspiracies,
2) Make a list of possible reasons (at least 4) why this conspiracy exists,
3) Provide evidence that refutes (or rebuts) the reasons that you chose, be sure to explain how and why this information “counters” your reasons, (in this step you will need to compile a Works Cited of the information that you get),
4) Give your interpretation as to what you think about the conspiracy,
5) Explain what makes your interpretation more credible that the others. Remember if you understand what others believe and where they come from, the easier it will be for you to formulate an argument that may change their opinion.
