How does culture influence national policy, parenting, and the student experience? These two frameworks offer some insight and, while imperfect, give us a starting point for discussing the role of culture on education.

Go to https://www.hofstede-insights.com/product/compare-countries/ (Links to an external site.) and enter the name of the country you were living in before HS (or the country you most strongly identify with). A graphic will pop up showing blue vertical lines along six dimensions. Click on “READ MORE ABOUT CHOSEN COUNTRIES” and then read what the 6D model says about this country. This is, essentially, an analysis of a Macrosystem.
Then, choose just three of the six dimensions that you feel are most salient to a discussion on education and/or agree most with your own experiences in the school context.
Explain why you chose each of them here (one paragraph per dimension).
Finally, add these three dimensions (with the index score next to it) in the Macrosystem part of your Ecological Systems Theory graphic for Part I).
