Write FIRST DRAFT at the top of your paper. Begin with a one-paragraph funnel introduction. Write your thesis statement as the last sentence of the introductory paragraph. Be sure it states your topic and the controlling idea. Write your supporting body paragraphs. Include a topic sentence for each body paragraph. Include supporting details for each main point.  Make your essay coherent. Use transition signals within and between the body paragraphs that show the order of your support and indicate whether you are giving additional information or opposite ideas.  Write concluding paragraph. Use a transition signal.  Pay attention to sentence structure. Include simple, compound, and complex sentences. Punctuate them correctly. Try to use academic (formal) vocabulary in your essay. Write a title. It should clearly identify your topic. For examples, look at the titles of the models in this chapter. You can begin the essay by the question of the topic and the essay will be the answer. Divide the essay to 5 paragraphs                (1 introduction, 3 bodies, 1 conclusion).
