Assignment: Exhibit Proposal Your final assignment for this course is to develop a museum exhibit that explores particular civilizations in reference to a specific a theme. Create your exhibit as a document. 1. Your first task is to decide upon one theme to guide your study. You will examine how the theme you have chosen had evolved, or had influence throughout 2 different civilizations. Some examples of possible themes include the following: Fine arts (sculpture, painting, print-making) Dramatic arts Architecture Medicine Science (astronomy, communication technology, etc.) Agricultural technology Politics Religion Sports Communication (writing) Military technology and strategies You are also free to pick a different theme from those listed, but you must obtain the approval of your teacher first. 2. Once you have picked your theme, decide on 2 civilizations you would like to focus on. Make sure you choose your civilizations carefully as you will want to pick ones that had important developments according to your chosen theme (i.e. in which periods were the most important scientific discoveries made?). You must select at least one civilization from an area that was not explored in great detail throughout the course. Not explored in course: Ancient Africa Ancient China Ancient India Ancient Japan Ancient Australia Ancient South America and/or Central America Explored in course Mesopotamia and the Ancient Near East Ancient Egypt Ancient Greece Ancient Rome Europe in the Middle Ages (AD 500–1500) 3. Look for artifacts that help bring your civilizations and theme to life. You should have 3-6 artifacts, images, or period documents for each civilization. They can be images of specific objects, buildings, works of art, tools, religious images, texts etc. 4. Include the beginning of the bibliographic information you have started to collect to develop and inform your exhibit. You may include any resources you have collected for research, and/or in those that reference the sources for your chosen artifacts. Thank you for completing this assignment, it is really important.
