For this assignment I would like you to consider the question of fear and scapegoating today.
Your first step is to go back through this week’s readings and review what we have learned
about moral panics and folk devils, including the five elements presented by Goode and Ben-
Yehuda (in the media chapter).
Next, think about what event or issue might constitute a moral panic today. Identify the folk
devils, moral entrepreneurs, and apply the five elements presented by Good and Ben-Yehuda
to your example.
