Begin your response by defining and discussing “Microaggressions.”
This includes an explanation of motivating factors and facilitating mechanisms that prompt microaggressions in general. (This criterion should take approximately a full paragraph to address)
11 Microagressions: (this criterion should take approximately 1-2paragraphs to address)
Read the “Racial Microaggressions” ReportDownload “Racial Microaggressions” Report from the University of Illinois-Urbana/Champaign. After reading the entire report, discuss and address the following issues.
In the report by Harwood and colleagues (2015), the authors’ list, in bullet points, 11 commonly experienced microaggressions (p. 6).
Have you experienced or observed any of the 11 items? If so which ones? Make sure to clearly identify the items you have experienced versus items that you have observed.
Make sure to properly cite and reference the report in your paper and references.
Information on how to cite the report is provided on the “Acknowledgements” page. (This criterion should take approximately a full paragraph to address).
If you have not experienced or observed any of the listed microaggressions: identify which of the 11 listed were surprising or unsurprising.
Make sure to clearly identify the ones which were surprising vs unsurprising. Explain your reasoning.

Think about the microaggressions you have experienced or observed.
Provide one detailed example of a microaggression that you have personally experienced. Be specific as to what the microaggression was and how it happened. Briefly discuss your reaction to the experience.(This criterion should take approximately a full paragraph to address)
If you have not experienced microaggressions: select one of the 11 common microaggressions and discuss how you might react to the experience.
What thoughts, behaviors, and emotions might you feel in the situation? (This criterion should take approximately a full paragraph to address)
Microaggressions Witness/Observed: (this criterion should take approximately 1-paragraphs to address)
Provide one detailed example of a microaggression that you have personally witnessed/observed. At the time you may or may not have recognized the behavior as a microaggression.
Describe the situation or context in which the microaggression occurred. What action, if any, did you take when the situation happened? (This criterion should take approximately a full paragraph to address).
If you cannot think of a microaggression that you witnessed: select one of the 11 common microaggressions and discuss how you might react to observing the microaggression.
What action, if any, would you take if the situation happened? (This criterion should take approximately a full paragraph to address).
Motivating Factors for Microaggressions: (this criterion should take approximately 1-2paragraphs to address)
Discuss and explain factors that may have motivated or enabled these behaviors in the specific situations (i.e. microaggression which were experienced or witnessed).
This portion must address the specific aspects of the situation in which the microaggression occurred which permitted or fostered the occurrence. (This criterion should take approximately a full paragraph to address)
Campus Recommendations for Microaggressions: (this criterion should take approximately 1-2 paragraphs to address)
Think about the Campus Recommendations made at the end of the Harwood et al. (2015) report.
Do you agree or disagree with the recommendations? Why or Why not? Support your response with specific reasons, examples, information for agreement or disagreement. (This criterion should take approximately a full paragraph to address)
Do you think UCF needs to complete an examination of microaggressions against students of color on campus? For other under-represented or stigmatized groups (i.e. gender-identity, age, ability, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, etc)? (This criterion should take approximately a full paragraph to address)
Textbook and Research Connection:(this criterion applies throughout the response as textbook support for each criterion and clear connection to textbook and additional research examples)
For each of the above prompts make sure to clearly support your response with definitions, information, and research provided in Chapter 9 of the text.
