What role does culture play in how we think, feel, and what we say? Do these things depend on culture? What does the Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis state? What are some cultural influences on the experience and expression of emotion? Consider how you experience and express emotions. Do different cultures have different emotions? What different factors contribute to emotions? Consider how intelligence is tested and measured in the United States. How do these tests account for cultural differences? How can intelligence tests be improved to account for more cultural differences? 1- Comments need to relate to a concept or theory from the assigned readings: This means that although you are welcome to provide personal examples, opinions, and observations, these need to be directly connected to at least one core concepts from the assigned readings. You need to cite the source for that concept or theory.
2- Need to cite your sources; this includes the required textbooks. Review APA guidelines for citation of sources. Citing sources means including in-texts citations with corresponding reference. You need both. If you cite a source within your post, you need a corresponding reference. If you list a reference, it needs to correspond to an in-text citation. References and in-text citations have a very special relationship; one cannot be without the other. 😉
3- Scholarly sources only: This means book chapters from multicultural and social psychology, and peer reviewed journal articles from the same fields of study. Internet sources such as Wikipedia, AboutPsychology.org, and Simply Psychology are not scholarly sources for the purposes of a graduate level course.
4- The analysis presented in your participation comments need to come from Multicultural and Social Psychology (as opposed to other psychology areas such as developmental psychology, personality psychology, etc).
5- Comments need to represent a unique contribution to the discussion. Simply agreeing with a classmate’s comment does not constitute a substantive post.
6- Word count: minimum of 175 words in extension.
7- Direct quotes cannot take more than 1/4 (25%) of the word count. Make sure direct quotes start with a quotation mark and end with a quotation mark. Â
