Reading comprehension is a process that is enhanced by the addition of related writing. Writing skills are improved through the addition of reading-based writing. This connection between reading and writing is known as the reciprocal relationship or process. Including this reciprocal process in early childhood instruction can be extremely effective in developing reading skills and expanding writing skills. Reciprocal Process Report

For this assignment, you will complete the “Using the Reciprocal Process” template. Select a grade level K-3 to focus on. Review your state standards for that grade. Identify one standard for each of the following areas: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Complete the template to include the following for each standard:

  • Objective: A measurable objective that aligns with the standard.
  • Activity: An engaging activity aligned with the objective.
  • Connections: Reciprocal connections between reading, writing, listening, and speaking that can be developed with the activity.
  • Resources: One literature resource that could be integrated into the activity.

In addition, write a reflection of 100-250 words on the following:

  • The ease or difficulty in connecting the standards.
  • The importance of the reciprocal process and building a connection between reading and writing.

Support your writing with 2-3 scholarly resources.
