In that assignment, you explained who you are as a communicator through your self-concept and reflected appraisal by others in your life. In this paper, you will apply concepts from the sections on interpersonal communication in the text in an analysis of your own communication. The goal of this paper is to show that you understand interpersonal communication concepts by explaining them and illustrating how they are expressed in a relationship of your choosing.
- Write 500-750 words.
- Pick a relationship in your life (it will be easiest to choose a friendship or romantic relationship) to analyze.
- Explain how the relationship has progressed and/or regressed using Mark Knapp’s stage development model (note: you need to give illustrations of communication scenarios/behaviors that show how you moved through the stages). You do not need to explain progress or regression through ALL of the stages, but you do need to highlight at least three to show change/development of the relationship.
- Apply ONE of the following sets of concepts discussed in the text for this class to the analysis of communication in the relationship you are analyzing.
- Leslie Baxter’s Relational Dialectics Theory
- Interpersonal Conflict (nature of conflict and styles for managing conflict)
- Waldron and Kelley’s Forgiveness Model
