Individual Assignment (30% of the coursework grade)
Learning Objective:
Upon completing this assignment, students will be able to:
- Understand the nature and process of negotiation
- Explain and apply the concepts and skills in achieving negotiation effectiveness in real-life situations
- Present their written ideas clearly and effectively
Requirements:
Identify and explain the skills or problems contributing to the outcome in a negotiation situation, of which you may choose from One of these THREE options.
Option A: One negotiation scenario of you;
Option B: Interview someone who shares his/her experience of ONE negotiation situation.
Option C: One negotiation scenario in the news which was published on or after April 1, 2020.
The report should cover the following:-
- Introduction – Describe the background and summarize the negotiation scenario briefly.
- Analysis – Identify and explain THREE effective negotiation techniques/skills or inappropriate approach/actions that affected the negotiation outcome.
- Recommendation – Suggest and explain EITHER one negotiation technique/skill OR one negotiation approach that could be applied in the negotiation scenario for improving the negotiation outcome.
Format:
- The report should be written in less than 600 words, excluding cover page and appendices
- Typed on A-4 size paper, 2.5 cm margin on all sides, font size of 12, Times New Roman
- Double line spacing for the content of your report
- Proper referencing is required for the newspaper articles but in text citation is optional. Other references are optional.
- Appendices for option A/B/C: For option A and B, write in English the full description of your personal negotiation experience or the interview scripts as supporting documents; for Option C, attach the news article from the internet (the news can be a local or non-local one, and which may be either English or Chinese) showing the date and source of publishing. Assignment without appendices of supporting materials will have penalty of 5 marks and will not be marked until receipt of the appendix.

Deadline: November 2, 2020 (Monday) 17:00.

* Make a cover page (see p.3) as the front page. Then, attach the Individual Assignment Evaluation Sheet (see p.4) as the end page. Include everything in one file and save as .PDF for submission.
Penalty for late submission:
Submit the correct PDF file to the two MOODLE links stated in point 1 & 2 set by your lecturer. FIVE marks will be deducted for late submission of assignment within 7 days of due date. TWENTY marks will be deducted for any other late submission. Extensions may be granted upon receipt of medical certificate or valid requests. Email assignment to your lecturer is not valid and will NOT be marked.
