Please read and thoroughly answer each question below. A “thorough” answer will include references to the textbook, any relevant discussions within the course, and any outside material you think could be relevant. There is no specific duration, but most questions will be at least a couple of paragraphs in length depending on what you choose to include. - What are Medicaid and Medicare, and their relevance to healthcare today?
- What solutions do you feel should be explored to combat physician and staffing shortages?
- Why is “making money” important to healthcare organizations (i.e. profits)? Why do “not-for-profits” need to make more than they spend each year?
- Do you believe value-based care (i.e. incentivizing for quality, access, and outcomes) is a good model for reimbursement? If so or not, why?
- Why does the U.S. spend an increasing portion of its resources on medical services, although they are less cost-effective than other methods in improving health status?
- Why are hospitals able to charge different purchasers different prices for the same medical services?
