Read Jhumpa Lahiri’s “Interpreter of Maladies,” (11 p). This growing up story is about coping with feeling out of place but ultimately making others feel more comfortable. The main character not only raises awareness, but also builds empathy. Can you think of a time in your life when you’ve felt out of place? What are three emotions you might use to describe those feelings? Write a one-page reflection about your experience.
