Read the White Paper on the proposed Injury and Illness Prevention Program (I2P2) from 2012 and review OSHA’s Recommended Practices for Safety and Health Programs (linked above). After reading both and considering class discussions to date, synthesize your response considering the following questions (but you can expand your analysis) and for your four page minimum reaction paper.
- Overall, discuss the benefits associated with safety and health program management programs for both the employers and the employees perspective. Make sure to highlight the core elements of a safety and health program in your analysis.
- In your opinion, would the requirements outlined in the injury and illness prevention program (I2P2) reduce the likelihood of injury and illnesses in the workplace? Will the recommended practices be as effective as the proposed standard would have been? Why or why not?
- Why do you think this proposed standard was so vehemently opposed to by the business community? Think about this from an HR perspective if you’re considering a career in that field.
- The recommended practices are not a new standard or regulation and do not create any new legal obligations or alter existing obligations created by OSHA standards or regulations. Do you think employers will still oppose these guidelines, even if they’re not legally enforceable? Why or why not?
